The Audi A5 arrived as an entirely new model in 2024, replacing the long-running A4 saloon and A5 Coupe families with a single, cohesive executive car range. For 2026, Audi has refined the recipe with a set of meaningful updates that raise the technology level and complete the trim structure for UK buyers. Sales of the updated cars began in mid-December 2025.
New Trims: Black Edition and Vorsprung
The most visible change for 2026 is the trim reorganisation. Audi has removed the Edition 1 specification from the A5 family and replaced it with two new grades: Black Edition and Vorsprung. The same logic applies to the performance S5 family, which gains S Black Edition and S Vorsprung specifications.
The Black Edition follows a familiar Audi formula, adding darkened exterior details and contrasting finishes that give the A5 a sharper, more purposeful appearance without changing the powertrain. Vorsprung sits above it as the flagship grade, combining the most complete technology and comfort package Audi currently offers on this model.
AI Integration: ChatGPT Comes to the Cockpit
The technology update that will define the 2026 A5 for many buyers is the addition of artificial intelligence to the Audi assistant. Working through a ChatGPT integration, the system gains new conversational capabilities, allowing drivers to ask more natural questions and receive more contextual responses without pressing through menus or issuing fixed voice commands.
Alongside this, the Audi virtual cockpit receives a new interface design carried over from the recently refreshed A3, creating a more consistent digital experience across the range. The MMI system also gains Bluetooth-based in-car gaming support for rear passengers on longer journeys.
A Built-In 4K Dashcam
One of the more practically useful additions is a dashcam integrated directly into the base of the interior mirror. Rather than an aftermarket unit clamped to the windscreen, Audi has designed this as a native part of the cockpit architecture. It uses a high-resolution 4K sensor with High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology to handle difficult lighting conditions well, whether driving into low winter sun or through a lit urban environment at night.
Experience Worlds
Audi has also introduced three selectable cabin atmospheres, named Activating, Relaxing and Harmonizing. Each adjusts ambient lighting, seat settings and audio profile to match a different mood or journey type. It sounds like an optional extra on paper but, in practice, makes the A5 interior feel considerably more personalised than the car it replaced.

The 2026 A5 starts from £41,950 in the UK with the 150PS 2.0-litre petrol engine, which Audi expects to be the most popular choice in the market.
