The Audi RS e-tron GT Performance Is Now the Most Powerful Audi Ever Made

Audi has always been clear about where the e-tron GT sits in its range. This is not an electric version of an existing Audi. This is the fastest, most powerful car the brand has ever made, and the updated 2026 version has pushed those limits further still. The RS e-tron GT Performance delivers 912hp and reaches 60mph in 2.4 seconds. Those are supercar numbers wearing a four-door body, and they come from a car that can also recharge at 320kW.

912 Horsepower from a Saloon

The Audi RS e-tron GT Performance is the top specification of the updated 2026 e-tron GT range. It uses a dual-motor setup producing a combined 912hp (679kW) and 919 lb-ft of torque. For context, this makes it Audi's most powerful production car in the company's entire history, surpassing even the R8 V10. The 0-60mph sprint takes 2.4 seconds in optimal conditions.

Below it in the range, the standard RS e-tron GT delivers around 637bhp, while the S e-tron GT offers a more accessible entry point to the platform. All three variants benefit from the engineering revisions Audi applied across the 2026 update, including a new 105kWh gross battery and revised thermal management.

Charging That Matches the Performance

Audi fitted the updated e-tron GT with a 97kWh usable battery (up from the previous generation) and a peak DC charging rate of 320kW. Under optimal conditions, that translates to an 80% charge in roughly 18 minutes, which is among the fastest available in any production car currently on sale. The 800-volt architecture also means the battery spends more time at peak charging rate compared to lower-voltage systems, making real-world charging stops shorter than a headline figure alone suggests.

WLTP range in S specification approaches 300 miles. The RS Performance trim, with its higher sustained performance output, returns slightly less. This is a car for driving, not for minimising electricity costs, and the charging infrastructure to support it is mature enough in the UK that range anxiety is not the concern it once was for a car in this class.

A Different Proposition to the Q6 and A6 e-tron

It is worth being clear about how the e-tron GT relates to Audi's other electric models. The Q6 e-tron is an electric SUV. The A6 Avant e-tron is an electric estate. The e-tron GT is a sports car that happens to have four doors and a practical boot. The profile is lower, the weight distribution is more deliberately managed, and the focus on driver engagement is explicit rather than incidental. The rear motor does the majority of the work; the front motor provides traction on demand. The result is a car that rewards a driver rather than simply transporting one.

Audi also updated the design for 2026, with revised front and rear styling that looks sharper than the already distinctive original. New wheel designs, four new exterior colours, and a segment-first available glass roof with transparency control round out the visual changes. The steering wheel is new, and the cabin feels more clearly oriented toward the driver without sacrificing rear passenger comfort.

The Audi Experience at Avant Drive

At Avant Drive, our Audi S4 Avant and Audi A5 represent what the brand does at its most usable: sharp, composed, and entirely at home over any road or journey length. Both cars reflect the same engineering philosophy that underpins the RS e-tron GT, scaled to something you can hire for a weekend and live with comfortably. The e-tron GT sits at the far end of that same brand story and serves as a reminder of just how far Audi's ambition reaches.
