Maserati is not a brand that makes quiet gestures. When the Trident confirmed it was refreshing three of its core models simultaneously, the GranTurismo, GranCabrio and Grecale, it anchored all three updates around a single design philosophy drawn directly from one of the most extreme cars it has ever built.
That car is the MCPura, a limited-production track-focused hypercar defined by its dramatic front intake, an enormous, sculpted opening that prioritises airflow above all else. For a circuit machine, that kind of visual aggression is expected. What Maserati has achieved with the 2026 facelift is to translate the MCPura's spirit into road-car reality, giving both the GranTurismo and the Grecale a sharper, more confrontational face while keeping the refinement that buyers expect from these models.
The GranTurismo update is the most significant. The top-specification Trofeo gains a meaningful power increase, with the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 now producing 582 horsepower, up from 542bhp in the outgoing car. That lift makes the GranTurismo competitive with grand tourers costing considerably more, and Maserati has accompanied it with revised chassis tuning designed to sharpen turn-in response without compromising the long-legged comfort that makes it such an effective cross-continent car.
The styling changes, a new lower bumper, revised air intakes, updated lighting, give the GranTurismo a noticeably more purposeful appearance, particularly in darker colours. Maserati has also refreshed the interior materials and updated the infotainment interface, addressing criticisms that lingered from the launch model.
The Grecale facelift follows the same brief. Maserati's compact SUV, its most widely sold model in the UK, gains the same shark-nose front treatment, with new daytime running lights and a bolder lower intake section. The electric Grecale Folgore also receives its own technical upgrades for 2026: Maserati has introduced an intelligent AWD-disconnect system that automatically transitions between all-wheel and rear-wheel drive depending on conditions, reducing energy consumption and extending range to approximately 360 miles.
As Maserati sharpens its design language and raises its performance credentials, its cars remain genuinely distinctive. There is a thread that runs from the MCPura hypercar down to the Ghibli saloon, an insistence on character, on feeling like nothing else in its class, on being noticed even when parked.
At Avant Drive, our Maserati Ghibli S reflects exactly that. A naturally aspirated 3.0-litre V6, 410 horsepower, near-perfect weight distribution and a soundtrack that rewards anyone paying attention. It is a car with a distinct point of view, and that rarity is part of its appeal. Available for self-drive hire from Bristol, with UK-wide delivery.
