Range anxiety has been the defining obstacle to electric car adoption in the UK since the market began to grow in earnest. Long motorway trips, a charging network that remains uneven outside the major corridors, the nagging doubt that comes from watching the battery percentage fall, these are real concerns that keep many drivers from fully committing to an EV. Volvo's answer, arriving in UK showrooms this September, is the new EX60.
The headline figure is 503 miles of WLTP range. Volvo has earned a reputation for conservative range estimates that tend to be more reliable than most rivals, which makes that number meaningful rather than theoretical. London to Edinburgh and back without stopping to charge is not a prospect that would have seemed credible three years ago; with the EX60, it becomes a practical reality for most journeys.
The EX60 is the first car built on Volvo's new SPA3 architecture, the successor to the platform underpinning the acclaimed XC60, XC90 and S90. Designed as an electric-first foundation, SPA3 enables higher-density batteries, more efficient power delivery, and critically, much faster charging.
Peak charging speed is 370kW. At compatible high-power chargers, this allows the EX60 to recover over 100 miles of range in around ten minutes. The growing network of 350kW Gridserve and BP Pulse sites appearing across major UK routes is well-matched to what the EX60 can accept, and the car is positioned to take full advantage as infrastructure continues to improve.
The dual-motor variant produces 503 horsepower and handles all-wheel drive for drivers who prioritise performance or winter capability. A single-motor rear-wheel drive option joins the range at a lower price point for those focused primarily on range and efficiency.
Pricing starts at £56,850 and rises to £70,360 for the top-specification variant, placing the EX60 in direct competition with the Audi Q6 e-tron, the BMW iX and the Mercedes EQE SUV. On range, it challenges all three. UK orders are open ahead of the September 2026 on-sale date.
Volvo's approach to electrification has been careful and deliberate rather than flashy. Each successive model has refined rather than reinvented the formula, and the EX60 feels like the car where that patience pays off most fully: a mid-size SUV with the packaging, range and charging speed to match anything in the segment.
